Azulejo Blues · An eight-petal cobalt rosette with acanthus corners
The rosette at the heart of a tiled courtyard
Walk the old streets of Lisbon and you meet this kind of pattern on every stairwell and fountain, blue flowers repeating into the distance. We drew our own version to sit on one square by itself. It looks calm, cool and quietly grand under a black cast-iron pan.
The design
A cobalt rosette of eight rounded petals blooms from the centre, with acanthus scrolls curling out towards each corner. Quarter medallions sit in the corners, so two tiles side by side begin to form a continuous pattern. Deep cobalt and a paler sky blue are brushed over milky white.
